We're thrilled to be the host of the 1st General Meeting of the RSHM Network of Schools this year as well as having you in our school from June 28th to July 2nd, 2017.
Marymount Bogotá was the first of the three schools that the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary founded in Colombia. In 1948 it started operating as part of the expansion of the hard work of this community around the world.
At Marymount we work to fulfill the mission that defines us with discipline and enthusiasm to be able to raise integral women among a frame of Christian values which develop the competencies to lead a responsible transformation of their environment. In addition, and looking for a superior level that allows us to maintain ourselves many more years to come in the national and international panorama. To be in 2025 an international referent of girls education, focused in Christian values which respond with innovation and dynamism to the environment necessities and the globalization demands. Throughout our management we will preserve the founders' legacy among an ethical framework toward change.
Today, we are one of the most important schools for girls in Bogota, according to the results of the National Education Ministry. We have just over 1.000 students, ranging in age from four to eighteen and according to our mission we are developing future leaders thanks to the tangible opportunities that our girls have to practice the skills needed to play a valuable role in our society. we encourage our students to attend to the cultural richness in Colombia and to think about their role in the wider community participating in international experiences such as events and a trip to Canada for girls in 5th grade.
“In our school we work hard to maintain the national traditions for our students, with a strong Colombian identity, but with a global perspective”, says Maria Angela Torres, the school’s Principal.
Lessons are taught in Spanish and English and, in 2012, the school introduced Portuguese as a third language. We offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme and the majority of pupils earn an IB Diploma when they graduate. There is a sense of pride on our students academic achievements and equally proud of their spiritual and social progress; social service is included as part of the day-to-day curriculum from a young age; we in Marymount think that it is important to achieve a balance between academic and personal development.
Balance is also key when it comes to maintaining traditional values while planning for the future. This is illustrated in an ambitious, ongoing infrastructure planning programme, which involves developing modern facilities that will inspire learning for generations to come without compromising the atmosphere of the school’s original buildings and leafy campus.
Throughout its history, Colegio Marymount in Bogota has remained true to the vision that inspired its founders. We educate students to be supportive, responsible and honest with excellent skills that allow them to lead the transformation of their environment.
